On October 29, 2017, Jazz 93.5 sprang to life with a live broadcast of the Colorado Springs Jazz Party, featuring performances by great regional talent. This month, we kicked off our 5th Birthday Celebration at the Ent Center for the Performing Arts with music by the Jazz 93.5 Host Band (featuring all your favorite on-air hosts, pictured) and an unforgettable performance by the illustrious Janis Siegel (of Manhattan Transfer fame). It is a thrill to celebrate five years of non-stop jazz music on the air in the Pikes Peak region.

Launching a full-time jazz station was an ambitious prospect, especially in a market not centered on a jazz mecca like Chicago or New York. Even so, Jazz 93.5 had humble beginnings. When the station began broadcasting five years ago, we did so with only one hundred records in the station’s library. Today, Jazz 93.5 boasts a collection of over nineteen thousand songs from thousands of albums, ranging from classics like Louis Armstrong’s Hot Fives to the latest releases on major jazz labels and perennial favorites like Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. In addition to its expansive and curated collection, Jazz 93.5 also brings you unique programming focused on the music and issues that you value most: samba and bossa nova on The Brazilian Hour, the legacy of women artists on Great Ladies of Jazz, live performances from around the country on Jazz Night in America, and more.

The station’s commitment to great music extends beyond the library to the on-air talent, as well. Jazz 93.5 is unique among jazz radio stations in that every host you hear on the air is not just a jazz enthusiast, but a trained jazz musician, many of whom are active performers and educators. Through their expertise, you can be assured that you are always hearing some of the finest, most exciting, most creative music in the genre, and stories you hear on-air are often told first-hand.

It cannot be overstated that to celebrate Jazz 93.5 is to celebrate YOU! Jazz 93.5 came into being simply because you asked for it, ‘round-the-clock jazz programming. But as a public, listener-supported station, it only continues to exist with your generous and continued financial support. Your support is more relevant than ever, in a time when other major jazz stations are either changing formats or folding altogether. With Jazz 93.5’s 5th Birthday Celebration, we are celebrating you and your commitment to great radio and timeless music in your home and in your hometown. On this splendid occasion, we raise our glass and offer a toast to you, our listener, for your support, your desire for, and your commitment to great jazz music, heard all day, every day, on Jazz 93.5!
