Our people tend to say that “we are a church born in the heart of the city, with a heart for the city.”

Founded on the corner of Kiowa and Weber Streets in 1872, First Baptist Church has been gathering as a community of faith for over 145 years now. In fact, there are only two congregations in Colorado Springs older than FBC — the First United Methodist and First Presbyterian Churches. We were literally being born as the city of Colorado Springs was being formed!

As a historic downtown church that has no intentions of leaving the downtown area, we are a congregation that cares deeply about our community and the city’s most vulnerable people. As such, we have longstanding partnerships with Ecumenical Social Ministries (ESM) and Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), along with La Puente Homeless Shelter, located in Colorado’s poorest county.
